A mother of two was attacked and dragged into a tent at a homeless encampment near a school in Los Angeles, California, prompting local parents to sound the alarm over deteriorating safety conditions.

According to residents, the incident occurred near 61st Street Elementary School, located just a block away from a homeless encampment under the 110 Freeway overpass.

Witnesses reported that the woman was overpowered by a homeless individual on the street and dragged into a tent. The victim’s current condition has not been disclosed in detail.

Parents and local residents described the environment surrounding the school as being in a state of severe decay, with trash, drug paraphernalia, and various hazardous items appearing on students’ paths to school.

Residents say they have reported the issue to authorities multiple times since 2021, but the situation is only addressed temporarily before quickly recurring.

The Council District 9 office confirmed that several cleanups have been conducted and long-term measures are being considered, including increased surveillance and restricting activities in areas near the school.

A representative for the Los Angeles Unified School District stated that student safety is the top priority and they are collaborating with local authorities to find a solution to improve the situation.

The incident has heightened security concerns in school zones located near dense homeless populations.
