A man who previously served a prison sentence for a high-profile 2017 assault in Chicago has been arrested again in connection with a new robbery.

Police identified the suspect as 30-year-old Tesfaye Cooper, who was arrested on April 8 on charges of attacking and robbing a bicycle from a cyclist alongside another individual.

According to police reports, Cooper and his accomplice allegedly pursued the victim into a train station, where they assaulted him and stole his bike.

Previously, Cooper served approximately seven years in prison for the 2017 incident, in which a victim was bound, beaten, and severely injured. The incident was livestreamed on social media, sparking national outrage at the time.

In this latest case, authorities stated that no hate crime charges have been filed, although the victim is white.

Police are continuing their investigation to clarify the role of each suspect involved in the incident.
