Mission
Truong Atlanta is an independent Vietnamese-language news outlet providing timely and accurate reporting for Vietnamese Americans across the United States. Founded and operated by freelance journalist Truong Nguyen in Suwanee, Georgia, Truong Atlanta was born from the recognition that the Vietnamese-American community faces a severe shortage of reliable Vietnamese-language news about issues that directly affect their lives in the U.S.
Our core mission is to bridge the information gap between mainstream American media and the Vietnamese-American community. We are committed to helping our readers access important news about the United States, Vietnam, and the world in their native language — honestly, objectively, and accessibly. From federal policy affecting immigrant life, to local news in Georgia and states with large Vietnamese populations, to international developments impacting the diaspora, Truong Atlanta strives to be the trusted source the community can rely on every day.
Accuracy and Verification
Accuracy is the foundation of responsible journalism. At Truong Atlanta, all information published must pass a rigorous verification process before reaching readers.
We apply OSINT (Open Source Intelligence) methodology to gather and verify information from multiple public sources. This is a method widely used in modern investigative journalism, enabling cross-referencing and validation of data from multiple independent angles.
Our verification principles include:
- Primary sources first: Government documents, official reports from federal and state agencies, statistical data from credible organizations such as the Census Bureau, BLS, CDC, and equivalent bodies.
- Multi-source verification: All important information is cross-checked against at least two independent sources before publication. When only one source is available, this will be noted in the article.
- Timely corrections: When errors are discovered after publication, we correct them immediately and transparently inform readers of what was changed.
- Clear distinction between fact and opinion: Factual information is presented separately from the author's analysis and commentary.
Editorial Independence
Truong Atlanta was founded and is operated entirely independently by Truong Nguyen. It is a private news outlet, not affiliated with any media conglomerate, political party, government organization, or interest group. Editorial decisions — from choosing topics and angles to published content — rest entirely with the editorial team, free from any outside pressure.
We are committed to:
- No pay-for-play: No individual or organization can pay to influence the news content of Truong Atlanta.
- No editorially influencing sponsors: If Truong Atlanta has sponsors or advertising partners in the future, these relationships will never influence editorial decisions.
- Transparency about sponsored content: Any advertising or sponsored content (if any) will be clearly labeled as "Sponsored Content" or "Advertisement" so readers can distinguish it from independent news.
News vs. Opinion
One of the most important principles of ethical journalism is a clear distinction between news and opinion. At Truong Atlanta, we rigorously apply this principle to all published content.
- Factual Reporting: Presents events objectively, based on verified data and sources. The author does not include personal opinions in news articles.
- Analysis: Based on facts but includes the author's contextual explanation and assessment. Analysis pieces are clearly labeled "Analysis" so readers know.
- Opinion/Commentary: Expresses the author's personal viewpoint on an issue. These pieces are clearly marked as "Commentary" or "Opinion" in the headline or opening.
Truong Atlanta readers have the right to know whether they are reading objective news or personal opinion, and we are committed to maintaining this distinction consistently.
Sources and Attribution
Transparency about sources is a key element enabling readers to independently assess the credibility of information. At Truong Atlanta, we follow these principles on sources and attribution:
- Cite sources in the article: All information, figures, and quotes are clearly attributed so readers can verify them independently.
- Link to original sources: Where possible, we provide hyperlinks directly to primary documents, official reports, or source articles for further reference.
- Anonymous sources: We minimize the use of anonymous sources. Anonymous sources are only used when genuinely necessary to protect the personal safety of information providers, particularly in cases involving immigrants, vulnerable workers, or whistleblowers. When anonymous sources are used, we explain the reason to readers.
- Faithful translation: When translating or adapting information from English to Vietnamese, we ensure the original meaning is preserved and the original source is credited.
Correction Policy
Errors are inevitable in journalism, but how errors are handled reflects the ethics and accountability of a news outlet. Truong Atlanta is committed to handling all errors transparently and promptly:
- Minor errors (typos, minor figures): Corrected directly in the article with an editorial note at the end of the article, clearly stating what was corrected and when.
- Major errors (factual mistakes, significant figures, wrong assessments): A correction notice is posted at the top of the article with a clear heading. The correction explains specifically what information was wrong and what the correct information is.
- Transparent change history: Readers can clearly see what was changed and when. We do not silently edit or delete content without notice.
If readers discover an error in any article, please contact us at [email protected] so we can review and address it promptly.
Conflicts of Interest
Truong Atlanta is committed to disclosing all potential conflicts of interest so readers can independently assess the objectivity of content.
Author Truong Nguyen has a background and experience in the construction and contracting industry in Georgia. This information is publicly disclosed on the Author page. When writing about topics related to construction, real estate, or areas where the author has a personal interest, the article will include a clear note about this relationship so readers are aware.
Additionally, if any article mentions products, services, or organizations in which the author or Truong Atlanta has a relationship, this will be transparently disclosed in the article.
Privacy of News Subjects
Truong Atlanta respects the privacy of all individuals who appear in news coverage. We recognize that reporting can profoundly affect the lives of those mentioned, and we take this responsibility seriously.
- Protecting victims: The identities of victims in cases of violence, accidents, or abuse will be protected, especially when disclosure could cause further harm.
- Protecting minors: Personal information of children and minors is strictly protected. We do not publish names, photos, or identifying information of children in news that could harm them.
- Protecting immigrants: Recognizing the vulnerability of the immigrant community, we are especially careful when reporting on the identity and immigration status of individuals. We do not publish information that could lead to legal or security consequences for immigrants.
- Weighing public interest: In all cases, we weigh the public's right to know against individual privacy rights, prioritizing the protection of the most vulnerable.
AI-Assisted Content
In an era of rapid technological development, Truong Atlanta is transparent about the use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in the content production process.
- Clear disclosure: If AI tools are used in research, data synthesis, or drafting assistance, this will be clearly disclosed in the article.
- Human decision-making: Final editorial decisions — including topic selection, angle, fact verification, and publication approval — always rest with a human editor. AI is a support tool, not a replacement.
- AI does not replace journalistic judgment: Judgment about accuracy, fairness, ethics, and the impact of information on the community is a human responsibility. We do not delegate these decisions to any automated system.
- Verification of AI-generated content: Any information synthesized by AI is verified by editors against primary sources before publication.
