A man involved in his wife's disappearance in Bahamian waters has admitted to a series of errors on the night of the incident, describing it as a "string of failures" he cannot explain.
Suspicions surround 59-year-old Brian Hooker, who is currently being held for questioning after reporting that his wife, 55-year-old Lynette Hooker, fell from their dinghy while returning to their yacht on April 4, 2026.
⚠️ Phone Call Reveals Unusual Details
In an April 7 call with friends, verified by CBS News, Brian Hooker said:
“Everything was a series of mistakes… I will never forgive myself.”
He admitted to:
- Leaving too late after it was already dark
- Failing to anchor the boat properly
- Not wearing life jackets
- The boat keys falling into the water with his wife
He claimed he dropped the anchors in the "wrong order" and could not explain why.
🌊 Timeline of the Disappearance
According to Brian Hooker’s account:
- Sudden strong winds of about 20+ knots appeared
- His wife was knocked off the dinghy
- The sun set just 10 minutes later
- The couple was approximately 1,000 yards from their yacht
He stated he threw a flotation device into the water but was unsure if his wife reached it.
Subsequently, having lost the oars and the keys, he had to manually paddle back to shore.
🔍 Evidence Found, Victim Still Missing
Bahamian authorities have:
- Recovered the flotation device
- Found no trace of Lynette Hooker
- Officially suspended the search on Tuesday
The Royal Bahamas Police stated that Brian Hooker is being held for further questioning but has not been charged. In a separate development regarding death investigations, Cobb County police previously spoke out to debunk false rumors to protect the integrity of their verification process.
⚠️ Victim's Family Makes Serious Allegations
Lynette’s daughter stated that:
- Brian Hooker had a history of violent behavior
- He had previously strangled her mother, reminiscent of severe domestic violence cases like that of a Florida woman admitting to attacking her roommate recently.
- He had previously threatened to throw her overboard
Meanwhile, Brian’s attorney asserts that his client “completely denies any wrongdoing.” However, investigators are closely scrutinizing the testimony, as there have been instances where Russian-born women in Brooklyn pleaded guilty to perjury after intentionally providing false information to authorities.
