Utah — March 24, 2026 (New York Time) — A woman in Utah faces kidnapping charges after taking an 11-year-old boy to her home to force an apology to her son.

The suspect has been identified as 40-year-old Shannon Tufuga. According to prosecution records, she drove around looking for the boy—who allegedly bullied her son with autism—and forced him into her vehicle without parental consent. The incident highlights extreme parental reactions, similar to a recent case of a father shooting a man suspected of abusing his daughter in Arkansas.

Held at home with threats

The woman took the boy to her home in Provo and held him until he apologized.

Following the apology, the behavior did not stop. Police reports note that the suspect continued to issue threats, mentioning that her husband might physically assault the victim. This is a common element in kidnapping conspiracy prosecutions aimed at applying pressure or personal retaliation.

Afterward, the boy was taken back home.

Lasting psychological impact

According to charging documents, the incident left the victim in a state of prolonged stress, exhibiting high anxiety and forcing changes to his daily routine. These psychological injuries are as severe as those seen in the concealment of child abuse cases that occurred in several school districts over a long period.

Facing criminal charges

Authorities are prosecuting the following counts:
  • Child Kidnapping
  • Aggravated Child Abuse
Both counts are second-degree felonies, adjusted by prosecutors from higher levels for the interest of justice. Previously, the public was shocked by the case of a West Virginia mother sentenced to life in prison for actions that directly endangered her child's life.
