Dashcam footage captured the moment a small child appeared in the middle of heavy traffic in San Antonio, Texas, forcing ride-share driver Michelle Gallegos to act in a split second.
The incident occurred on March 10, while Gallegos was driving near Interstate 35 and noticed movement on the road. Upon closer look, she realized it was a young boy walking amidst the traffic.
In the video, the driver gasps as she spots the dangerous situation. The child showed no signs of fear, moving and playing right on the road surface.
Gallegos immediately stopped her car on South Zarzamora Street, approached, and took the child out of harm's way.
She placed the boy in the front seat, keeping him safe, and asked for his address to find his relatives.
According to the description, the boy was barefoot, his body and hair were dirty, his diaper was wet, and he showed signs of distress.
Unable to determine the boy's residence, Gallegos drove to the nearby Seven Pines apartment complex and called 911.
Police arrived within less than 10 minutes. Shortly after, the child's relatives appeared at the scene.
The transportation company praised this as an act showing high vigilance and responsibility.
Gallegos said her actions came from reflex and experience, expressing hope that anyone in that situation would do the same.
San Antonio police and the transportation company have not provided official comments at the time of reporting.
