An 82-year-old man in Colorado, who spent years advocating for local authorities to improve traffic safety at the intersection where his wife was killed, has died in a car accident at that very same location.

The victim was 82-year-old Gerry Goldberg. He died in a collision with another vehicle on March 3, 2026, at an intersection in Cherry Hills, Colorado. This is one of the heartbreaking traffic accidents that have recently shocked the public.

Tragedy Repeats at the Same Location

His wife, Andie Goldberg (59), had previously been killed at this same intersection in May 2024 when she was hit by a car while on her morning run.

Following his wife's death, Gerry Goldberg devoted significant time to lobbying local government to improve safety in the area, arguing it was a dangerous intersection similar to the serious traffic accident in Cobb County reported by the media.

He petitioned for the installation of a new traffic light, suggesting it be named “Andie’s Light” in memory of his wife and to help prevent similar accidents in the future.

Hundreds Sign the Petition

According to local documents, the petition pushed by Goldberg garnered 432 signatures and was submitted to the government in 2025.

In meetings with city leaders, he stated that installing a traffic light in this area could help avoid further similar losses.

Study Reveals High Accident Risk

The Colorado Department of Transportation conducted a study in September 2024 and found that the majority of vehicles traveling through this intersection were driving at least 5 mph over the 35 mph speed limit.

Plans to install traffic lights were approved at the state level; however, local authorities had yet to implement them. The story serves as a reminder of the fragility of fate—while there are cases where a man escaped death thanks to his wife's timely rescue, the Goldberg family's tragedy ended in profound pain.

Authorities Increase Patrols

Following the accidents, local authorities stated they have increased police patrols at the intersection to mitigate traffic risks.

Gerry Goldberg's case continues to draw attention from the local community, especially as the tragedy occurred nearly two years after his wife's death at the same spot.
