An 18-year-old is facing serious charges after allegedly driving into five Chicago police officers during a chaotic "teen takeover" gathering that occurred over Memorial Day weekend.
According to the New York Post, the suspect has been identified as Rashad Johnson, who was arrested around 3:23 AM on Sunday.
Police stated that Johnson is charged with five counts of murder after he allegedly drove into a group of officers attempting to control hundreds of teenagers gathered on South Loomis Street in Chicago's West Side.
The vehicle then reportedly drove onto the sidewalk, crashing into a police car, a light pole, and a fence before coming to a stop.
Authorities reported that Johnson was unharmed and was quickly apprehended at the scene.
Police also discovered a firearm inside the suspect's vehicle.
All five officers who were hit were transported to a local hospital and are currently in stable condition.
The incident occurred amidst a wave of "teen takeover" gatherings — a trend spreading on social media, where large numbers of teenagers take to the streets, causing chaos and requiring police intervention.
According to the report, many cities across the U.S. have seen brawls, looting, and shootings associated with large groups of teenagers during the holiday weekend.
