HALL COUNTY, Georgia – June 13, 2026
Authorities in Hall County are continuing their search for a man missing in a suspected drowning incident at Lake Lanier after hours of rescue operations on Saturday afternoon and evening.
The missing individual has been identified by family as Terrell Shelton, 21 years old.
According to the Hall County Sheriff's Office, the call reporting the incident was received around 2:40 PM in the area near the shore of Robinson Park.
Investigators stated that Shelton was swimming with a group of friends towards a nearby island. When his friends looked back, they no longer saw him and believe he submerged but did not resurface.
Immediately thereafter, multiple rescue units were mobilized to the scene, including dive teams, rescue boats, and search personnel from various agencies.
Dive search operations continued until approximately 9 PM on Saturday before being temporarily suspended due to light conditions and safety concerns. Authorities stated that the search would resume on Sunday morning.
According to local officials, the area where the incident occurred is approximately 30 feet (over 9 meters) deep.
The victim's family is present at the scene, awaiting information from the search teams.
Lake Lanier is a large body of water in northern Georgia and regularly attracts many people for swimming, boating, and recreational activities during the summer.
