A father of three was kidnapped in broad daylight in Tracy, California, and later found dead about a two-hour drive from the scene. Authorities stated that the incident likely stemmed from mistaken identity.

Restrained outside Sikh Temple

The victim was identified as Avtar Singh, 57. Video footage shows him being restrained by three men outside a Sikh temple (gurdwara) in Tracy around 2:30 PM last Tuesday, then forced into an SUV which drove away from the scene.

Around 9 PM the same day, his wife reported him missing after returning home to find their three young children alone.

Body Found Near Lake Berryessa

By Friday, Mr. Singh's body was discovered near Lake Berryessa, about a two-hour drive from where he was kidnapped. Authorities later confirmed his identity.

Sheriff Patrick Withrow stated that the case is being investigated as a homicide. He commented that this was not a random act, and the victim was not the intended target.

"This is a tragedy, and the investigation is ongoing," he said, adding that investigators are continuing to search for those involved.

Community in Shock

Mr. Singh had worked for over two decades at the local Sikh temple as a head chef. Colleague Deep Singh shared that he was a dedicated, hardworking individual beloved by the community.

His family had welcomed triplets just six months ago, after a long period of hospital treatment for their premature birth.

A crowdfunding page set up to support the family described him as a humble, devoted person who always made those around him feel welcome.

Officials have not yet released information about suspects or specific motives. The investigation continues.
