Eight children, including a 1-year-old baby, were killed in a mass shooting in Shreveport, Louisiana, after a gunman attacked three consecutive homes in the same neighborhood.

A total of 10 people were shot, of whom eight victims did not survive. The victims ranged in age from 1 to 14 years old, according to local police following the incident on Saturday night.

Shreveport Police Department spokesperson Christopher Bordelon confirmed that some of the victims were “descendants” of the suspect himself.

The crime scenes were described as spanning across two houses on the same street and another house in a nearby area, creating a large-scale and complex investigation.

After committing the crime, the suspect hijacked a vehicle to flee the area. Police quickly pursued the stolen vehicle near the intersection of West 79th Street and Linwood Avenue.

During the pursuit, police opened fire and killed the suspect.

Police Chief Wayne Smith stated that authorities are continuing a comprehensive investigation, while the local community remains in a state of shock over the severity of the tragedy.
