NEW YORK – A 9-year-old boy died after being struck by a school bus in Brooklyn on Friday morning, according to police.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Lee Avenue and Lorimer Street in Williamsburg while the victim was crossing the street.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene to find the boy unconscious and unresponsive, with severe head and body trauma.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The bus driver, a 49-year-old man, initially left the scene but later returned upon realizing a collision had occurred, according to sources.

No criminal charges have been filed at this time.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani expressed his grief over the incident while calling for enhanced traffic safety, emphasizing that children must be protected while moving through the city.
