A 22-year-old Alabama man has pleaded guilty to operating a massive sextortion ring spanning three years, targeting hundreds of teenagers and young adults across the United States. Among the victims was a woman residing in Kennesaw, Georgia, where the case first caught the attention of authorities.

According to federal court records, Jamarcus Mosley, a resident of Mobile, Alabama, admitted to charges of computer fraud, extortion, and cyberstalking. Prosecutors stated that Mosley frequently gained control of social media accounts such as Snapchat and Instagram, then stole private images to use as tools for threats and coercion against his victims.

Sophisticated phishing and account takeover tactics

Mosley's criminal scheme operated from April 2022 to May 2025, frequently using the tactic of impersonating friends to gain account access. In Kennesaw, the suspect posed as a former classmate to trick a 20-year-old woman into providing an account recovery code. After successfully gaining access, he threatened to release 65 sensitive videos and explicit images of the victim if she did not comply with his demands.

Mosley's actions caused trauma for many other victims, including an 18-year-old in Florida whose private photos were leaked after refusing his demands. In Illinois, a 17-year-old girl was stalked by Mosley through Snapchat's map feature. The suspect even used her account to contact her 13-year-old sister and conduct violent threat campaigns, claiming he knew exactly where their family lived.

Coordinated investigation and severe penalties

The case was dismantled through close cooperation between the Kennesaw Police Department and the United States Secret Service. Federal prosecutor Theodore S. Hertzberg described Mosley as a prime example of the online dangers that parents should be concerned about, as the suspect exploited the trust of young people to exploit sensitive images and extort them over a long period.

"This case demonstrates the severity and heavy impact of online exploitation on young victims," shared Kennesaw Police Chief Bill Westenberger.

Currently, Jamarcus Mosley faces the maximum sentence under federal guidelines for the counts to which he pleaded guilty. The formal sentencing hearing is scheduled to take place at 2:00 PM on May 27, 2026, before U.S. District Judge Michael L. Brown.
