NEW YORK – A notable aviation incident recently occurred near John F. Kennedy International Airport when two aircraft flew within approximately 500 feet of each other.

According to data from FlightRadar24, a Delta flight operated by subsidiary Endeavor Air was preparing to land at JFK when it crossed paths with a Cirrus SR22 propeller plane.

At that time, the Delta aircraft was flying at an altitude of approximately 2,100 feet, while the Cirrus was at about 2,575 feet.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) stated that air traffic control warned both pilots and that minimum safe separation was maintained.

Air traffic control data indicated that dispatchers were not in direct contact with the small aircraft when the two planes crossed each other's approach paths.

This is the second similar incident near JFK in just the past two weeks. Previously, two passenger planes flew within 400 feet of each other while approaching the runway.

The incident continues to heighten concerns regarding aviation safety in the New York area, which has some of the busiest air traffic in the United States.
