The suspect, 35-year-old Thomas Jesse Bingham, initially panicked because he could not find his backpack and documents. Instead of rechecking his luggage, he turned to accuse a TSA agent of taking his passport—then immediately turned to violence.
According to court records, Bingham grabbed the officer's uniform, ripped off their name tag, pulled the security officer's hair, and slammed them against a glass partition while many passengers were waiting hours for security checks. The TSA agent sustained injuries and required medical evaluation.
The entire incident occurred in the middle of a crowded passenger area, leaving many witnesses stunned as the situation quickly turned into chaos at LAX.
Bingham was initially restrained and then arrested again when he attempted to leave the U.S. for the UK. His previous plans to visit Las Vegas were effectively terminated at the airport.
The suspect now faces charges of assaulting a federal officer—an offense that could carry a sentence of up to 8 years in prison, a severe penalty often seen after cases where passengers are removed from aircraft or security facilities for disruptive behavior.
What seemed like a routine trip ended in handcuffs—and potentially several years behind bars.
