The California gubernatorial race has seen a notable development as Democratic candidate Betty Yee publicly evaluated Gavin Newsom's tenure.
In an interview with KCRA, Yee stated that the current administration has not delivered results as expected for the people. She remarked that governance shows signs of losing focus, as political factors and public management have not been clearly separated.
“There needs to be a focus on governing and delivering concrete results for the people,” Yee emphasized, while adding that the administration has not maintained a steady pace in achieving this goal.
Despite the criticism, Yee acknowledged Newsom's role during the COVID-19 pandemic, praising his ability to control the situation and his presence during the crisis. She also expressed support for the state administration's response to policies from President Trump's administration.
Concluding her assessment, Yee gave Newsom's term a grade of “B.” This is a rare instance of a candidate from the same party publicly providing a specific rating for Newsom's tenure.
According to recent polls, Yee is currently seeing low support in the race. Several other Democratic candidates have avoided making direct remarks about the incumbent governor.
On the opposing side, Republican candidates are focusing their criticism on the state's high cost of living, considering it a major issue of the current term.
