DNC Deletes Memorial Day Post After Wave of Criticism for Mentioning “Trump’s War”

May 26, 2026

The U.S. Democratic Party deleted its Memorial Day post on social media platform X after facing a fierce wave of criticism for using images of fallen American military personnel in the war with Iran to attack President Trump.

The official account of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) initially posted the message:

“Today, we remember the American heroes who sacrificed their lives in Trump's war with Iran.”

The post included images of 13 American service members killed in “Operation Epic Fury.”

After receiving thousands of disapproving comments and over 1.1 million views, the DNC deleted the post and replaced it with more neutral content.

The new post read:

“On this Memorial Day, we remember and honor those who sacrificed their lives to protect our nation and our freedoms.”

The image was also changed to an American flag alongside the Democratic Party's donkey emblem.

However, many social media users had taken screenshots of the old post and continued to criticize the DNC.

“The Democratic Party is shameful and anti-American,” one account wrote.

Another person commented:

“Don’t forget that the Democratic Party used fallen military personnel to score political points and gain engagement. This is the most disgusting thing I’ve ever seen.”

Many also criticized the DNC for quietly deleting the original post.

“Why did you delete that post?” a user asked.

Republican National Committee Chairman Joe Gruters called the post “shameful.”

“Using Memorial Day to exploit the sacrifices of our service members for political gain is disgraceful and appalling,” he wrote on X.

Even some Democratic members voiced their opposition.

Tammy Duckworth — an Iraq War veteran who lost both legs in combat — wrote:

“Using our fallen heroes to make political attacks on Memorial Day is incredibly offensive. I am a Democrat, and I condemn this DNC post.”
