Driver Killed After Tractor-Trailer Overturns on I-20
A serious traffic accident involving a tractor-trailer recently occurred on I-20 Westbound in Haralson County. According to reports from authorities, the incident took place at mile marker 5, near the Veterans Memorial Highway area.
The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) stated that a state trooper was quickly dispatched to the scene to handle the incident. Initial investigations determined that a white tractor-trailer failed to maintain its lane, left the roadway on the left side, struck a tree, and overturned.
Tragic Consequences and Cause of Death
Authorities confirmed that the driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision. The extreme force of the impact caused the driver to be ejected from the cabin, and they were pronounced dead at the scene. Currently, the victim's identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
Due to the severity of the accident, all westbound lanes of I-20 were blocked starting around 8:30 p.m. for investigation and scene processing. Authorities are working to clear debris and the damaged vehicle to reopen the route to traffic as soon as possible.
Authorities Continue Investigation
The detailed investigation into the cause of the accident is still actively being conducted by the Georgia Department of Public Safety. Experts advise drivers to stay alert and always wear seatbelts when traveling on highways to minimize risks during unexpected incidents.
