Rep. Eric Swalwell’s California gubernatorial campaign is facing a severe crisis as four women have come forward with allegations of personal misconduct, including sexual assault claims from a former staff member.
According to reports, one woman who previously worked on the campaign stated the incident occurred in 2024 at a hotel after an evening involving alcohol. She described resisting and repeatedly saying “no,” but the behavior continued. Physical injuries followed, necessitating medical examinations for potential pregnancy and transmitted diseases.
The individual also recalled an incident in 2019, when she woke up in a hotel room with no clear memory of events but felt that sexual intercourse had previously occurred.
Another woman said she met Mr. Swalwell via social media and later in person. During an evening involving alcohol, she described non-consensual physical contact, including being kissed and having her legs touched. She stated her memory was hazy upon leaving the venue and that she later sent messages protesting the behavior.
A social media content creator alleged receiving private messages and explicit photos via the Snapchat app after discussing politics. Another woman working in marketing reported receiving unwanted private videos and suggestive comments regarding her personal photos.
Reports from sources published in the San Francisco Chronicle provide further details on the relationship between Mr. Swalwell and the former staffer during her time at the Castro Valley regional office. She stated she received private messages, was asked to send personal photos, and faced pressure in the workplace environment.
In a separate incident, she described inappropriate behavior occurring in a car after a fundraising event, along with personal propositions made in a parking lot.
The allegations surfaced as the campaign enters a critical stage. Many figures within the Democratic Party are concerned about the developments in the gubernatorial election and have begun calling for an investigation. Nancy Pelosi has suggested an inquiry and requested that Mr. Swalwell withdraw from the race.
Several political allies and organizations have withdrawn their support. Multiple campaign staffers resigned on the same day. Fundraising and support pages have been taken down.
Mr. Swalwell denies all allegations, claiming the information was released to achieve California election interference and damage his personal reputation. In a statement to CNN, he emphasized his public service record of nearly 20 years, despite recent controversies surrounding the Rep. Eric Swalwell video leak at a $23 million mansion.
His legal team has sent cease-and-desist letters to several individuals involved and warned of potential defamation lawsuits.
Currently, no conclusions have been reached by authorities. All allegations are in the process of being verified.
