Cobb County Police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred Saturday evening on I-285, which resulted in the death of former WNBA champion Kara Brown Braxton Jackson, 43.

According to the Cobb County Police Department's Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Unit, the collision occurred around 5:13 p.m. on February 21st on northbound I-285, south of Cobb Parkway.

Accident Details

Authorities stated that a blue 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E, driven by Jackson (a College Park resident), was traveling in the northbound left lane when it failed to maintain its lane and struck the concrete median barrier.

The vehicle continued along the median wall before coming to a stop on the left shoulder near Cobb Parkway.

Jackson was transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, where she was pronounced deceased. Her family has been notified.

Kara Braxton played 10 seasons in the WNBA for the following teams:

  • New York Liberty

She was named SEC Freshman of the Year in 2002 while playing for the University of Georgia and was selected to the All-Star team in 2007.

The WNBA and the New York Liberty team posted messages of condolence on social media platform X, expressing their sadness at her passing.

Braxton is survived by her two sons, Jelani Thurman and Jream Jackson, her husband Jarvis Jackson, and her twin sister Kim.
