Fiery Sedan Crash Kills Four On Scene

LONG BEACH, California — Four people died following a violent, fiery car crash early Saturday in Long Beach. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) announced it has sent a federal investigation team to the scene.

Long Beach police received reports around 1:18 a.m. at the intersection of East Spring Street and Lakewood Boulevard. Authorities stated it was a single-vehicle collision.

By the time firefighters reached the gray sedan, all four occupants were deceased at the scene. Video from the scene showed the vehicle severely mangled and engulfed in intense flames.

Area Shut Down For Hours

Lakewood Boulevard was closed in both directions between Spring Street and Willow Street for several hours for the investigation. Police urged the public to avoid the area until further notice.

Cause Undetermined

The Long Beach Police Department stated it is currently unknown whether speed, distracted driving, or impairment were contributing factors in the crash.

By late Saturday morning, the NTSB confirmed it would coordinate with local police to investigate and determine the cause of the accident. The NTSB's involvement indicates the severity of the incident.

The identities of the four victims have not been released, pending notification of next of kin. The investigation is ongoing.
