The winner was identified by the Colorado Lottery as Jonathan G., who currently works as a phone service salesperson in Alamosa.
According to a social media post by the Colorado Lottery, Jonathan decided to buy a lottery ticket during a break after a day of poor sales.
The winning ticket was from the $20 200X Scratch game, purchased at a local Walmart store.
Jonathan shared that his family had endured prolonged financial difficulties. Previously, he had lost his job and lived in a shelter for homeless people.
He eventually found steady work and secured housing for his girlfriend and children before unexpected luck arrived.
According to Jonathan, most of his previous lottery purchases were only $5, and the largest prize he had ever received before was $20.
The $1 million prize is expected to help the family improve their lives after years of hardship.
