GBI Confirms Teacher is Subject of Investigation, Victim is Student Under 18
LEESBURG, Georgia — A Georgia high school teacher was arrested Wednesday following allegations of inappropriate conduct with a minor student at Lee County High School.
According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), Danielle Weaver, 29, of Leesburg, faces two serious charges:
- Child molestation.
- Improper sexual contact by an employee.
School Proactively Requested Police Intervention
The incident came to light when the administration of Lee County High School proactively requested the Leesburg Police Department to initiate an investigation on February 3. Just one day later, the GBI was invited to assist with the investigation.
Through their work, investigators identified Weaver as the primary subject of the investigation, and the victim as a student under 18 years old attending the school.
Weaver Self-Surrendered and Was Released on Bond
Following the coordinated investigation by the GBI and Leesburg police, an arrest warrant for Weaver was issued on Tuesday.
Weaver self-surrendered at the Lee County Sheriff's Office on Wednesday and was released on bond, according to WALB News.
Case File to Be Sent to Prosecutor for Review and Prosecution
The GBI stated that the investigation is still ongoing. Once completed, the entire case file will be forwarded to the District Attorney's Office for the Southwestern Judicial Circuit for review and potential prosecution.
Leesburg is a small city located in South Georgia, approximately an hour and a half drive north of Tallahassee, Florida.
