A 70-year-old woman in Carlton, Georgia, is facing multiple criminal charges after her 77-year-old husband died from a gunshot wound to the head.

The Madison County Sheriff's Office stated that deputies received a call around 8:15 p.m. and responded to a home on the 7000 block of Highway 72 East. In the living room, authorities found Gregory Waco Compton suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

Authorities determined that Marion Jackson Compton used a handgun to shoot her husband. The two were married and lived in the same home.

Investigators have charged Marion Compton with felony murder, malice murder, elder abuse, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. She was booked into the Madison County Jail and was being held without bond as of Wednesday night.

Officials have not yet released a motive for the incident, confirmed whether there had been previous calls to the address, or identified who made the initial emergency call. Information regarding legal representation and her first court appearance has not yet been announced.
