Senator Lindsey Graham stated that President Trump “acted at the right time” when launching the airstrike campaign named “Operation Epic Fury” against Iran. Graham told the Washington Post that the campaign is large-scale and aimed at removing the current regime in Tehran. He expressed his long-held view that Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, should be replaced. “It has been my long-standing wish that this murderous regime be replaced by the Iranian people – those who seek a better life for themselves and their country,” Graham stated. He also acknowledged the risk of military casualties in the campaign. According to him, if there are losses, it is a sacrifice for a safer America and a more just world. The 70-year-old senator argued that allowing the Iranian regime to persist after years of alleged state-sponsored terrorism and domestic oppression would have severe consequences for U.S. national security. Graham expressed hope that this campaign would pave the way for major changes in the region, including the possibility of resuming the normalization process between Israel and Saudi Arabia if the Iranian government collapses. His statement comes as the U.S. and Israel conduct coordinated airstrikes, while Iran takes retaliatory steps in the region.
