Donald Trump is dragging the United States into a war that the American people do not want. Let me be clear: I oppose a war for regime change in Iran, and our service members are being put in harm’s way because of a war of choice by Donald Trump.
This is a dangerous and unnecessary gamble with American lives, and it undermines regional stability and our standing in the world. What we are witnessing is not strength. It is recklessness masquerading as resolve. I understand the threat that Iran poses, and they must absolutely never be allowed to possess a nuclear weapon, but this is not the way to eliminate that threat.
During the campaign, Donald Trump promised to end wars instead of starting them. That was a lie. Then last year, he said “we have wiped out” Iran’s nuclear program. That was also a lie.
