Mackenzie Shirilla — the woman convicted of a deadly car crash that once shocked the US — is now facing numerous rule violations at an Ohio women's correctional facility, according to disciplinary records obtained by the New York Post.
Shirilla, 20, is serving two concurrent life sentences after the 2022 crash that killed her ex-boyfriend and a friend. A court in 2023 concluded that she deliberately accelerated the car before crashing into a wall at high speed.
According to prison records, Shirilla has accumulated a total of 23 violation reports since being admitted to the Ohio Reformatory for Women.
The documents reveal numerous violations related to alleged inappropriate conduct in prison, including:
• Allegedly exposing her breasts during a video call with a visitor
• Storing nude photos in her cell
• Possessing unauthorized medication
• Wearing altered clothing against regulations
• Being present in an unauthorized area after curfew
• Making hundreds of video calls to unapproved individuals
In a 2025 incident, a guard reported that Shirilla reacted aggressively after being reprimanded for her altered, form-fitting attire. Records also indicate she was previously placed in solitary confinement due to violations related to sexual behavior within the facility.
A cell search also uncovered a dyed bra, Nike shoes, prohibited craft items, and two bottles containing “mixed medications.” Subsequently, staff found personal photos believed to be linked to substance use and medications prescribed to others.
Mackenzie Shirilla is currently appealing her second-degree murder conviction. Her case recently garnered renewed attention after Netflix released the documentary “The Crash.”
