MIDDLE EAST – Iran is reportedly considering the use of mine-carrying dolphins to attack U.S. warships in the Strait of Hormuz amid a prolonged military blockade in the region, according to a report from The Wall Street Journal.

Sources indicate that some hardliners in Tehran view the U.S. blockade of oil exports as an act of war, calling for a resumption of military operations.

According to Iranian officials, attack options may include the deployment of previously unused weaponry, including dolphins trained to carry mines.

In addition, Iran could deploy submarines to the strait and has previously warned of the possibility of cutting undersea telecommunication cables—a move that could cause significant disruptions to the global internet.

Experts suggest that the current blockade is no longer seen as an alternative to war but as a different form of conflict, causing the risk of escalation to continue to rise.
