LOS ANGELES – Los Angeles mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt sharply criticized California leadership and called Governor Gavin Newsom "a demon," while also attacking the city's handling of the 2025 Pacific Palisades wildfire.
In an interview with Ankler Media CEO Janice Min, Pratt said he lost faith in Newsom after the Governor was criticized for dining at French Laundry while pandemic restrictions impacted small businesses.
"He's a reality TV star, but he's in charge of everything that's failing," Pratt stated.
Mayoral Bid Motivated by Wildfire
Pratt announced his mayoral candidacy after his home was destroyed in the January 7, 2025 fire in Pacific Palisades. He claims to have waited in vain for firefighters as the blaze spread to his property.
He officially entered the race on the one-year anniversary of the fire and will face incumbent Mayor Karen Bass in the non-partisan primary election on June 2.
Pratt stated he joined the race because he didn't see any other candidate exhibiting "similar energy."
Attacking City Leadership
The candidate accused the Bass administration of downplaying post-audit reports on wildfire response and ineffectively addressing the homelessness crisis.
He declared he would review all shortcomings, remove involved officials, and create an "elimination list" including the Mayor, leaders of the Los Angeles Police Department, Fire Department, and Department of Water & Power.
Campaign Message
Pratt said he loves Los Angeles but is concerned the city and Hollywood entertainment industry are in decline. He believes the current environment makes it difficult for TV shows like "The Hills" to exist.
The mayoral race unfolds as LA continues to face numerous challenges, from disaster recovery to security and homelessness. Pratt's campaign marks a shift from reality TV star to political candidate, adding an unexpected element to the upcoming election.
