A 30-year-old man from Idaho died during a rafting trip on the Colorado River while passing through Hance Rapid in Grand Canyon National Park. This tragic incident occurred on February 26, according to a statement from the National Park Service.
The National Park Service stated that the victim entered the water at the head of Hance Rapid, a treacherous location at mile 77 of the Colorado River, while with his rafting group. Hance Rapid is rated by many rafting experts as one of the most complex and dangerous stretches of rapids on this river route.
Members of the group quickly pulled the man to shore while he was unconscious. The emergency coordination center received a distress signal from the river at 11:15 a.m. ET. Subsequent reports indicated that group members performed CPR at the scene.
Park rangers were then dispatched to the location by helicopter to take over life-saving efforts. However, all resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful.
Currently, the victim's identity has not been publicly released by authorities. An investigation is being conducted by the National Park Service to determine the exact cause of this tragic death.
