Stroller Blown by Wind into Lake Michigan
A man in Chicago plunged into freezing Lake Michigan to rescue an 8-month-old girl after a strong gust of wind blew her stroller into the water at Belmont Harbor.
The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon. Lio Cundiff saw the stroller blown from the mother's hand and roll directly into the lake.
Non-Swimmer Jumps In to Save Life
"I saw the stroller blow into the lake and a woman screaming. I wasn't going to let that baby die."
Cundiff stated that he doesn't know how to swim but understood he only had seconds to act. He jumped into the frigid water.
"I'm glad the stroller stayed upright and didn't flip over. The baby went under a few times, but I managed to keep her afloat."
Baby Rescued, In Good Condition
Bystanders helped pull both of them ashore. When pulled up, the baby was still breathing and crying.
Police said the baby was taken to the hospital for observation and was initially in good condition.
Hero Hospitalized for Heart Monitoring
Cundiff is currently hospitalized for overnight heart monitoring and hopes to be discharged soon.
"I hope she has a wonderful future. I'm glad I was there."
