A powerful tornado swept through Oklahoma on the night of March 5, killing a mother and daughter after their vehicle was struck while they were traveling on the road.
The victims have been identified as Jodie Owens, 47, and her daughter, Lexi Owens, 13.
According to family information and local reports, their vehicle was hit by the tornado while driving near State Highway 60 and County Road 2430 in the Fairview area of Major County around 10 p.m.
The bodies of the mother and daughter were found in the destroyed truck after the storm.
The mother's final call before losing contact
According to the family, as the storm hit, Jodie Owens was calling her children at home to warn them to seek shelter.
The call was abruptly cut off, and the family lost contact with the pair before they were reported missing.
Footage from News 9 showed the vehicle thrown off the road, lying mangled in a field after the storm.
Multiple tornadoes appearing simultaneously
The National Weather Service said at least four tornadoes formed in western Oklahoma on the night of March 5.
Storm chasers also captured images of a large funnel cloud moving rapidly through the area.
Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt sent his condolences to the victims' family and warned that the risk of dangerous weather remains as the Southern U.S. faces strong thunderstorms and severe hail.
He urged residents to monitor weather warnings closely and follow local authority instructions.
Central U.S. prepares for more storms
On March 6, a tornado described as “large and extremely dangerous” hit the Three Rivers area in Michigan, causing significant damage and injuries.
In Union City, Michigan, residents posted images of houses leveled, vehicles destroyed, and areas buried in debris following this historic storm.
According to initial reports, the area may record multiple deaths, similar to the incident where a young girl was killed by a natural disaster in Utah recently, though official numbers in Michigan have not yet been confirmed.
Meteorologists say nearly 70 million Americans are in areas at risk of severe weather, including strong thunderstorms expected late this weekend in several states.
Tornado warnings have currently been issued for Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri, and Iowa.
