A jewelry store in Decatur was searched as part of a multi-state operation to dismantle a "gold bar scam" targeting the elderly, as confirmed by the Collin County Sheriff’s Office in Texas.

Authorities simultaneously executed search warrants on February 25 at three locations:

  • Malani Jewelers – Decatur, Georgia
  • Malani Jewelers – Richardson, Texas
  • Orlando Gold Refinery – Altamonte Springs, Florida

The operation was led by the Collin County Sheriff’s Office, in coordination with the Lithonia Police Department in Georgia and the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office in Florida.

Alleged Modus Operandi

According to the investigation, the suspects pose as law enforcement or government officials to pressure victims into withdrawing cash and purchasing gold bars, which are then handed over to "couriers" under false pretenses. This gold is allegedly processed, melted down, or traded through the involved businesses.

The case was initially announced on January 29. Digital forensic analysis and evidence seized in previous stages of the investigation helped authorities establish grounds linking the aforementioned businesses to a network for processing and moving stolen assets.

Officials stated that the goal of this new phase of action is to clarify and dismantle the entire financial structure and gold processing stage of the ring.

Undisclosed Information

Authorities have not yet revealed the total value of the stolen gold, the specific number of victims across the three states, or whether any individuals were arrested or charged during the February 25 searches. It has not been confirmed if other businesses are part of the expanded investigation.

The investigation continues.
