Brian McGinnis, a North Carolina Senate candidate from the Green Party and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, has been charged after disrupting a Senate hearing regarding the conflict in Iran.
The incident occurred on March 5 during a Senate Armed Services Subcommittee hearing. In a cell phone video published by station WTVD, McGinnis is seen wearing a Marine uniform and shouting loudly: “No one wants to fight for Israel.”
U.S. Capitol Police attempted to remove McGinnis from the hearing room as he resisted. During the intervention, security forces pulled him out of the area.
According to the U.S. Capitol Police, the incident resulted in injuries to McGinnis and three police officers.
Senator Tim Sheehy of Montana, a former Navy SEAL, also appeared in the video assisting security forces in controlling the situation.
Mr. Sheehy later posted the video on social media platform X, stating that police were trying to remove the protester from the hearing when the individual fought back.
U.S. Capitol Police have charged McGinnis with counts of assaulting police and resisting arrest.
Under regulations, protest activities are prohibited within U.S. Capitol buildings.
The campaign for the North Carolina candidate has not immediately provided a response following the incident.
