Hunter West Nadeau, 24, accused of opening fire at the Sky Meadow Club in Nashua, told investigators his targets were wealthy people because he believed they do not help the poor, according to a police affidavit obtained by the Boston Globe.

According to the indictment, at approximately 7:17 p.m. on September 20, 2025, cameras captured images of Nadeau wearing a black hoodie and carrying a blue backpack, entering the club's main entrance before heading toward the Prime Steakhouse on the premises. The suspect wore a mask, drew a gun, and fired multiple shots.

Receptionist Steve Burtman was shot in the face and survived after receiving emergency medical care. Inside the restaurant, Nadeau continued firing at diners, killing 59-year-old Robert Steven DeCesare, who was dining with his wife and daughter. Another person was injured.

The affidavit states the suspect continued firing until he was restrained by patrons and forced to retreat from the restaurant. A witness told the Associated Press that during the chaos, the suspect shouted political slogans.

Police later found Nadeau on the club's golf course with a hand wound believed to be self-inflicted. Investigative records note that the suspect referred to himself as a "bad person" and admitted to the act.

From his hospital bed, Nadeau told investigators he detested "the elite" because he believed they held all the money. The suspect stated he chose Sky Meadow because he had worked there as a server about a year prior and knew the members were financially well-off. Police said Nadeau did not target specific individuals and did not care if people died.

The New Hampshire Department of Justice stated that in January 2026, prosecutors indicted Nadeau on multiple charges, including first-degree murder and second-degree murder for reckless conduct. The suspect is being held without bail pending trial.

The shooting occurred as investigators examine motives involving ideological elements similar to several previous attacks in the U.S.
