Authorities in Pearl River County, Mississippi, recently conducted a large-scale drug sting titled "Operation County Sweep." Initial results show 26 individuals have been arrested, though police say dozens of other suspects are still at large and are being actively pursued.
This operation involved close coordination among multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Picayune Police Department, the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics (MBN), the FBI, and the Mississippi Department of Corrections. Task forces were deployed simultaneously across the county to execute warrants for individuals involved in the sale and transportation of illegal substances.
Serious Charges Facing the Suspects
Those arrested in this operation face a range of serious criminal charges depending on the severity of their violations. Some suspects are being prosecuted for multiple aggravated offenses, particularly serious drug trafficking and illegal weapons possession. Key charges include:
- Sale of controlled substances and trafficking large quantities of drugs.
- Drug trafficking within a school zone.
- Possession of narcotics with intent to distribute and conspiracy.
- Possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
Currently, the list of wanted suspects spans several areas including Picayune, Carriere, Lumberton, Poplarville, and even cases in Louisiana. Most of these individuals are accused of direct involvement in local drug distribution or transportation networks.
Sheriff David Allison stated that this operation is just the first step in the effort to crack down on and push back local drug activity. Sean Tindell, Commissioner of the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, also emphasized the importance of inter-agency cooperation in maintaining law and order:
The synergy between local and federal justice departments has significantly enhanced the effectiveness of drug enforcement operations, ensuring community safety.
The case is currently under ongoing investigation, and authorities expect more arrests in the near future. Officials are urging citizens with any information regarding the fugitives to contact the coordinating agency immediately at 601-749-5482 to assist law enforcement.
