PHARR, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers seized methamphetamine worth more than $8.1 million, hidden in a shipment declared as bricks, at the Pharr International Bridge cargo facility.
The incident occurred on April 21, 2026, when CBP officers inspected a commercial tractor-trailer arriving from Reynosa, Mexico. The vehicle was referred for a secondary inspection. Non-intrusive scanning systems and canine units detected signs of anomalies.
A detailed inspection revealed approximately 908 pounds (over 411 kg) of methamphetamine hidden within the shipment. The total estimated street value reached $8,119,696. Authorities seized all narcotics and the transport vehicle.
Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) has taken over the case and initiated a criminal investigation. Information regarding suspects or arrests has not yet been released.
Carlos Rodriguez, Port Director for the Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry, emphasized that CBP maintains strict control over the flow of cargo to prevent narcotics from entering the country at its gateways.
