A Sacramento, California branch of Planned Parenthood has begun offering aesthetic services such as Botox injections, lip fillers, and the use of nitrous oxide (laughing gas) to increase revenue after the Trump administration cut approximately $100 million in federal funding for the organization.
According to health leaders at Planned Parenthood Mar Monte, the expansion of services aims to help the facility maintain operations and compensate for the financial shortfall.
Expanding services beyond reproductive healthcare
Dr. Laura Dalton, medical director of Planned Parenthood Mar Monte, stated that the facility is offering several new services alongside traditional reproductive healthcare.
The new services include:
- Botox and dermal fillers
- GLP-1 weight loss medications
- Nitrous oxide to reduce anxiety and pain during certain procedures
According to Dr. Dalton, this expansion helps the facility generate additional revenue to sustain operations after budget cuts following new directives from the Trump administration.
Financial support from California
In early March 2026, California Governor Gavin Newsom provided $90 million in support to Planned Parenthood Mar Monte to offset a large portion of the budget deficit.
Facility leaders stated that the new services will help cover additional medical costs not reimbursed under reproductive healthcare programs.
Plans for expansion to multiple clinics
Not all Planned Parenthood clinics in Sacramento currently provide aesthetic services, but the organization stated it plans to expand these services to approximately 30 clinics in the region.
Some patients expressed willingness to use these services at Planned Parenthood, as it meets personal needs while contributing financial support to the organization, even as California billionaires face new tax proposals.
Protests emerge
Outside some Planned Parenthood facilities in Sacramento, anti-abortion groups organized protests, calling on customers to reconsider using services there, especially following controversies regarding slogans attacking President Trump in the state.
Planned Parenthood is currently one of the largest reproductive healthcare provider systems in the United States.
