According to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), the suspect is a woman in her 30s who used an AR-15-style rifle to fire multiple shots at the singer's property.
Police stated the suspect fired 7 to 9 rounds, four of which struck the house.
Images from the scene show several bullet holes in the main gate and walls, while investigators conducted a forensic examination of the entrance and courtyard.
Rihanna was inside the house when the incident occurred, but no one was injured, according to the LAPD.
Her partner, rapper A$AP Rocky, was not at home at the time of the shooting.
Police tracked down and arrested the suspect at a shopping center parking lot in Sherman Oaks, about 30 minutes from the scene, shortly after a 911 call was placed to authorities.
Several residents in the area reported hearing gunshots.
Witness Isabel Thorne said she heard sounds like loud explosions while inside her home and was surprised that such violence occurred in the usually quiet Beverly Hills area.
The incident marks the second time Rihanna's Los Angeles home has faced a serious security breach in recent years.
In 2018, a 27-year-old man named Eduardo Leon broke into the singer's Hollywood Hills home and stayed inside for nearly 12 hours before being discovered.
He later pleaded guilty under a plea deal and received a 10-year restraining order against Rihanna.
The Los Angeles Police Department has not yet released a motive for the shooting, although there have been documented cases of suspects targeting the wealthy in the U.S., and the investigation is ongoing.
