The decision to fire Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard was considered by President Donald Trump but reversed after long-time advisor Roger Stone directly intervened.
Reports suggest President Trump was dissatisfied with Gabbard’s March 18 testimony, in which she failed to confirm an urgent nuclear threat from Iran. He consulted his cabinet and advisors about potentially replacing the head of the intelligence community.
Roger Stone received a call from the President and presented several arguments to keep Gabbard in her role. He argued that she demonstrated loyalty, maintained a professional demeanor before Congress, and that firing her could trigger a wave of negative media coverage.
Stone also warned that such a move could turn Gabbard into a political icon for voters opposed to military intervention, while potentially clearing a path for a 2028 presidential campaign, which could impact Vice President JD Vance’s political future.
A White House statement affirmed that President Trump values Gabbard’s role, viewing her as a key member of the national security team.
Roger Stone declared he “acted in time,” while other involved parties have not provided additional official comments.
