On March 16, 2026, California state authorities announced the dismantling of a large-scale drug trafficking ring in the Sacramento area, with 17 individuals indicted for distributing approximately 500 pounds of methamphetamine per month.

The case was uncovered after an 8-month undercover investigation titled "Operation Meltdown," which began in July 2025 when an undercover officer purchased several pounds of meth from a suspect in North Auburn. From a small-scale transaction, law enforcement traced an entire distribution network spanning Placer County.

On March 12, nearly two dozen law enforcement agencies conducted a coordinated raid, searching 25 locations and arresting multiple suspects. The seized items revealed the true scale of the operation: approximately 65 pounds of meth, over 7 kg of cocaine, half a pound of MDMA, 26 firearms, more than $100,000 in cash, and a DMT manufacturing laboratory.

Authorities determined that the organization operated systematically, with links to drug trafficking routes from Mexico and criminal gangs in Sacramento. The monthly distribution of 500 pounds of meth highlights the extensiveness and danger of this network.

All 17 defendants appeared in court and entered pleas of not guilty. The case remains under investigation, as authorities warn this is only part of a larger picture of drug activity in the Northern California region.
