LOS ANGELES, California – A social media trend dubbed “Scientology speedrun” is spreading on TikTok, forcing the Church of Scientology to ramp up security measures at multiple locations.

According to reports, participants—primarily young people—film themselves entering Scientology-related buildings and moving quickly through the interior to gather information or “explore” as much as possible.

The term “speedrun” originated in gaming, referring to completing a task in the shortest time possible. In this trend, the goal is to navigate through the organization’s areas as fast as possible.

A witness reported seeing a group of people in strange costumes, including characters like aliens and Jesus, gathering in front of an information center on Hollywood Boulevard before rushing inside together.

The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed they have handled several related incidents over the past month, including cases being reviewed as actions targeting a religion.

In response, the church has removed exterior door handles at locations on Hollywood Boulevard to restrict entry.

A spokesperson for the organization stated that one staff member was injured in an incident and required medical treatment. The representative emphasized that religious facilities are not places for disruptive behavior or viral videos.

Despite garnering millions of views on social media, the motive behind the trend remains unclear. Some suggest it is merely “meaningless” entertainment popular in Gen Z culture.
