The man involved in the 2023 Seattle shooting that killed a pregnant woman and her fetus has been found not guilty by the court due to a lack of cognitive capacity at the time of the crime.

Suspect Cordell Goosby faced first-degree murder charges and attempted murder following the incident on June 13, 2023.

The victim, 34-year-old Eina Kwon, who was 32 weeks pregnant, was traveling to work with her husband when they stopped at a red light at approximately 11:15 a.m.

According to prosecutors, Goosby approached the vehicle and opened fire through the driver-side window, causing casualties to those inside.

After the shooting, the suspect fled the scene and discarded the weapon.

Police later arrested Goosby. Court documents noted that the suspect admitted to the act when apprehended.

The victim's husband was injured and survived the attack.

King County Superior Court accepted the verdict of not guilty by reason of insanity after experts from both the prosecution and defense evaluated the suspect's mental state at the time of the incident.

Legally, this verdict means the suspect admitted to the act but is not held criminally responsible under legal standards.

The suspect will be committed to a state psychiatric facility. Any future release from this facility is subject to multiple levels of review by authorities and the court.

Seattle authorities previously described the incident as a grave tragedy occurring in broad daylight, which shocked the community.
