SAN FRANCISCO — Police have arrested a suspect involved in a broad daylight stabbing on the streets of San Francisco after video capturing the entire incident went viral online. According to authorities, the suspect—an Asian man in his 30s—is currently facing attempted murder charges. The suspect was apprehended near the 600 block of Powell Street approximately 10 minutes after the attack occurred. Surveillance footage shows the suspect approaching the victim from behind on the sidewalk before stabbing them in the back and fleeing the scene. This incident is part of a concerning wave of weapon-related violence, similar to the recent stabbing attack in a high-end residential area that shocked the community. The victim collapsed onto the street following the attack. Paramedics then transported the victim to a hospital with life-threatening injuries; however, doctors stated there is a high probability of survival. A manager of a nearby store said police informed local employees that the victim and suspect were acquainted prior to the incident. This detail is often seen in complex criminal cases, such as the case of a suspect attacking relatives in Washington state. According to reports from KTVU, the suspect required a Chinese interpreter during questioning. Police stated that both the suspect and the victim reside within the local community. The motive for the attack is still under investigation as city security is being tightened, especially after the San Francisco Mayor’s security detail was attacked on the street.
