WASHINGTON, D.C. – Pete Hegseth affirmed that the ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran remains in effect, even though U.S. forces have recorded more than 10 attacks since the agreement was established on April 8.

Speaking at the Pentagon, Mr. Hegseth argued that Iran's actions have not yet crossed the threshold to re-trigger a large-scale conflict.

According to Dan Caine, Iran has fired on commercial vessels nine times, seized two container ships, and carried out more than 10 attacks against U.S. forces, primarily at the level of harassment.

The U.S. is currently deploying "Project Freedom" to ensure the safe passage of maritime routes through the Strait of Hormuz.

Officials stated that more than 22,000 sailors are stranded on over 1,500 commercial vessels in the region due to the tense situation.

Mr. Hegseth confirmed that the shipping lanes have begun to open after two U.S.-flagged commercial vessels passed through with a naval escort.

He also emphasized that the Strait of Hormuz is an international waterway and is not under Iranian control.

During the press conference, U.S. officials dismissed unverified reports regarding Iran using explosive-laden marine animals to attack warships.

Tensions in the region persist, although both sides have not yet entered a phase of full-scale conflict.
