President Trump referred to it as a “love tap,” and compared to the U.S. military's full combat capabilities, it certainly was. However, in reality, the U.S. destroyed numerous Iranian assets and targets.
U.S. officials described the entire incident as “self-defense strikes” after Iranian forces attacked or threatened three U.S. Navy destroyers:
USS Truxtun
USS Rafael Peralta
USS Mason
These vessels were operating in or near the Strait of Hormuz.
According to released information, Iran launched missiles, drones, and deployed “fast boats” targeting U.S. forces, but all attacks were repelled.
The U.S. subsequently conducted airstrikes against Iranian military and naval targets, including:
missile launchers,
drone launchers,
command centers,
and various facilities in or near Bandar Abbas and Qeshm Island.
U.S. sources stated this was a limited and proportional response, which does not signify a total end to the ceasefire agreement.
President Trump continued to describe the operation as a “love tap.”
