WASHINGTON — The U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee has commenced an oversight hearing for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) featuring Secretary Kristi Noem. On her way into the hearing room, Noem passed a group of protesters chanting slogans related to immigrant rights. Security forces maintained order as she proceeded to her seat. The hearing focused on examining the impact of funding disruptions currently affecting DHS operations. Committee Chairman, Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), called for order to be maintained throughout the session. “We need to maintain the highest level of decorum in this hearing; committee members must treat each other with respect,” Grassley stated. He also asked the audience in the hearing room to show respect for the ongoing oversight process. The hearing continued with opening statements from senators and the questioning of Secretary Noem.
