WASHINGTON — The U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee has commenced an oversight hearing for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) featuring Secretary Kristi Noem. On her way to the hearing room, Ms. Noem passed a group of protesters chanting slogans regarding immigrant rights. Security personnel maintained order as she made her way to her seat. The hearing focuses on evaluating the impact of funding disruptions currently affecting DHS operations. Committee Chairman Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) called for decorum to be maintained throughout the session. “We need to maintain the highest level of respect in this hearing; the members of the committee should treat each other with respect,” Mr. Grassley said. He also asked the audience in the hearing room to respect the ongoing oversight process. The hearing proceeded with opening statements from senators and the questioning of Secretary Noem.
