HOUSTON, Texas – Officials have confirmed more details regarding an incident that left four members of a family dead in the River Oaks area, with the father identified as the primary suspect.
According to the Houston Police Department, authorities received a call for a welfare check at a home located at 2113 Kingston Street on the afternoon of May 4. Upon entering, police discovered four deceased individuals, all suffering from gunshot wounds.
The victims include a 52-year-old man, a 39-year-old woman, an 8-year-old girl, and a 4-year-old boy.
An initial investigation suggests a murder-suicide, in which the man is believed to have caused the deaths of the other three family members before taking his own life.
Property records link the home to Mr. Matthew Mitchell and Mrs. Thy Mitchell, his wife of Vietnamese descent. A family member confirmed on social media that Thy and her two children have passed away.
The Mitchell family owned several famous restaurants in Houston, including Traveler’s Table and Traveler’s Cart in the Montrose area.
These establishments were previously featured on the show "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives," and one of the restaurant's chefs won "Beat Bobby Flay" in 2023.
Police stated the incident was discovered after a nanny and relatives were unable to contact the family since the previous evening.
The official identities of the victims have not yet been released, pending confirmation from the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. The motive for the incident remains unclear.
Investigators are urging anyone with relevant information to contact the Houston Police Department's Homicide Division.
