CUMMING, Georgia – Authorities have launched an investigation after a woman's body was discovered in a wooded area behind a commercial district near the intersection of Bald Ridge Road and Pirkle Ferry Road in Forsyth County. According to the Cumming Police Department, officers found the body on the afternoon of March 13 in a grassy area behind local shops and nearby residences. Upon arriving at the scene, police requested assistance from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Witnesses in the area reported that approximately 15 to 20 police cars, along with helicopters and drones, were deployed to search the surrounding woods. According to the Forsyth County Coroner’s Office, the body had likely been at the location for several weeks before discovery, reminiscent of missing person searches at parks that have occurred in the area. The identity of the victim and the cause of death have not been released. Investigators have also not yet determined if foul play was involved. Witness Kaylyn Harmon noted that the large police presence caught many in the shopping area by surprise, raising concerns over past reports of body disposal cases in Georgia. Another employee, Thania Sanchez, said many workers nearby watched the developments throughout the day as authorities conducted their investigation. Lamar Greenway, a resident living near the discovery site, said the community hopes authorities will soon clarify the cause of the incident, citing the serious nature of a body hidden under a tarp case in a neighboring state that recently caused a stir. Officials stated that the GBI is conducting an autopsy to determine the cause and circumstances of the death. Forensic results will play a crucial role in the next steps of the investigation.
